This event preview article originally ran back in May when the news of Adam Richman's visit to Louisville first broke. The episode featuring Derby-Pie, The Brown Hotel, Lynn's Paradise Cafe and finally The Comfy Cow, runs Wednesday July 27th on the Travel Channel. The video of the episode will be available on the Travel Channel website shortly after and you can check out behind-the-scenes photos as well!
Newly-established, ‘The Comfy Cow’ ice-cream and dessert shop hasn’t taken long to gain notoriety at a national level. The week following the Kentucky Derby, The Comfy Cow wrapped up filming with Travel Channel’s ‘Man v. Food Nation’ television crew for an episode in its new season which kicks off June 1. What about The Comfy Cow could possibly attract such attention you ask? The Comfy Cow Sundae, that’s what. The Comfy Cow consists of the following: 15 scoops ( 5 ½ pounds) of ice-cream, whipped cream, 8-10 maraschino cherries, 2 types of chopped nuts and 4 sidecars of your choice of sides or toppings.
For the sake of the show, very few details of filming have been allowed to surface. However I did learn that the Travel Channel is mixing things up a bit this season. Instead of putting their host - Adam Richman on the frontline of the tour’s challenges, Adam will be coaching a brave local through the brutal tasks. Owner of The Comfy Cow, Tim Koons-McGee tells me Richman’s protégé in the Comfy Cow Challenge tried his luck with 15 scoops of Vanilla. Challengers may choose any 15 flavors they want from the 28 flavors that The Comfy Cow offers. Was the Louisville native able to cope with the large amounts of dairy, sugar and brain freeze? Koons-McGee’s lips are sealed on the outcome, but does tell me that the show is expected to air sometime in July.
To hold you over until the show’s air-date, you can head to The Comfy Cow and take in the wonder of the sundae with your own eyes- or stomach. The challenge rules require 1 person to finish The Comfy Cow in its entirety within 1 hour without purging. Up until the Man v. Food challenge management tells me that only 1 person has successfully completed The Comfy Cow Challenge by themselves. If it’s any encouragement, completing the frigid task will land you a commemorative t-shirt as well as your photo on the exclusive “Wall of Fame,” but failing it will of course earn you a spot on the over-crowded “Wall of Shame.”
Not to be mistaken, the Comfy Cow Sundae is not only served to macho thrill-seekers. At 39.95, the giant dessert is commonly seen being shared by entire families or small parties. Nonetheless, it is hard to ignore the allure and majesty of this bovine bombshell. Apparently, the Travel Channel and Adam Richman agreed.
