Home to the world’s most delectable bourbon and the nation’s most popular horse racing track, Louisville is a city known for doing great things. And just when you thought this city had enough to be proud of, we added a few scoops of sugar, some fresh local milk, a little bit of brown butter and plenty of peanut brittle to the mix.
Louisville’s original ice cream chain, The Comfy Cow, has impressed ice cream-lovers all over the city with its inventive one-of-a-kind flavors since opening the doors to its first original location in Westport Village in 2009.
Since, Tim and Roy Koons-McGee, owners of The Comfy Cow, have opened up four additional locations throughout Louisville, two in Southern Indiana and one in Nashville. The thick and creamy ice cream is always made fresh to please its loyal patrons and to win the hearts of everyone who gets a taste.
So it’s no surprise that one of The Comfy Cow’s most popular flavors, Brown Butter Peanut Brittle became an instant hit recently at the 2015 World Dairy Expo Championship and brought home the title of "Ice Cream Grand Champion."
“I can’t express how much it means to us to receive this award and affirmation from our industry,” said Tim Koons-McGee after winning the title.
Taking first place over nearly 1,200 different ice creams, the deliciously sweet original Brown Butter Peanut Brittle ice cream was selected in a blind taste test which compared its loud flavor, body, creamy texture, melting quality, color and overall mouth-watering appearance to other ice creams listed throughout eight different categories. After winners from each category were selected, each was judged in order to select an overall winner.
“We felt confident our ice cream would receive some type of recognition, but were overwhelmed by winning Grand Champion and the resounding vote of support,” said Roy Koons-McGee, who also added that this was The Comfy Cow’s first year in the competition.
