    Bit to Do

    The Comfy Cow ice cream
    Print this page

Hello again, ‘Ville, it’s your number one Comfy Cow fan writing to keep you posted about all the best desserts in life.

Confession: Summer is my absolute favorite season. And clearly, ice cream and summer might as well be soulmates. The luscious chill of really great ice cream paired with intoxicating summer nights? Very few combinations in life can top that kind of Beyonce-level #flawlessness.

Thankfully, Louisville is the home of The Comfy Cow ice cream, which Buzzfeed just listed as #2 on its list of “27 Ice Cream Shops You Need to Visit Before You Die.” When you’re eating Comfy Cow, no matter the season, that creamy ice cream you are devouring is never going to go out of style.

Still, every season deserves a period of wistful reflection. It’s that necessary transitory state of bidding “So long, farewell” to summer as you begin to embrace the cornucopia of dazzling fall hues (and accompanying delicacies).

Comfy Cow’s philosophy is “Tomorrow we can eat broccoli, but today is for ice cream.” I can always get behind a carpe diem attitude. Particularly one involving frozen treats that could hail from Valhalla. And this delightful ice cream haven has got you hooked up with its creative September seasonal concoctions.

Without further ado, the September flavors are, (cue the drum roll of mouthwatering anticipation- it’s necessary):

Bonjour Toast: Maple cake pieces and Barry Callebuat dark chocolate pieces folded into a cinnamon-based ice cream. Fun fact: This flavor was the winner of Comfy Cow’s “Kids Creative Concoction” contest to benefit the Louisville Children’s Museum and was the brainchild of Julian VanWagoner, a student at Field Elementary. (Comfy Cow clearly agrees with late great Whitney Houston that “the children are our future.”)

Say “Cheeeeesecake”: Generous chunks of Comfy Cow’s own house-made New York style cheesecake in a cheesecake based ice cream.

Chocolate Peanut Butter: Chocolate and peanut butter ice cream mixed with Reese’s peanut butter chips, granulated peanuts, and a peanut butter swirl.

Coconut Almond White Chocolate Dream: Coconut and Barry Callebaut white chocolate with flecks of Callebaut white chocolate, crunchy toasted coconut, and chopped almonds.

Mexican Chocolate Ole!: A traditional chocolate ice cream spiked with a dash of spicy cayenne pepper and savory cinnamon.

Tiramasu: Combined flavors of coffee, cocoa, and Marsala wine to create Comfy Cow’s stamp on this classic Italian dessert.

And the Comfy Cow proudly declared “Foodie Flavors” are:

Ooey Gooey Chocolate Mooey: Comfy Cow’s Signature Chocolate ice cream loaded with roasted, buttered and salted pecans, pieces of chocolate chip pecan blondies, and a rich caramel swirl.

Jalapeacho: Comfy Cow’s fresh peach ice cream meets roasted jalapeno peppers!

You can partake in these stellar indulgences at any of The Comfy Cow’s now five locations:

    *Frankfort Avenue

    *Westport Village

    *Highlands

*Cardinal Towne at U of L

    *New Albany

Side note: The Bardstown Road location in the Highlands has introduced the "Affogato!" Imagine ice cream "drowned" in a shot of cold espresso with toppings and whipped cream all having one grand dessert party. You can also try there The Classic, The Butterfinger - Butterscotch, The Salted Caramel, and The Mint Chocolate Chippy.

I won’t reveal how many of these flavors I have had the pleasure of enjoying on a hot summer’s day. I will say it’s worth the trip!

Even Buzzfeed offers its blessing. Delight in some September flavors before the next imaginative batch arrives!
