In addition to being named WNBA All-Star game starters, Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel both had good weeks for the Atlanta Dream.
Here’s a closer look at how the two former University of Louisville stars, who now play for the Dream, did in the sixth week of the WNBA season.
McCoughtry averaged 21.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and four assists in three games for Atlanta, which went 2-1.
She tallied a game-high 32 points in leading the Dream to an 84-76 win over visiting New York on Sunday afternoon. McCoughtry was 9-for-12 from the field, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range, and 12 for 19 from the free throw line while also dishing out a game-high six assists, grabbing four rebounds, recording two steals and blocking one shot while committing two turnovers in 33 minutes.
Tuesday night McCoughtry struggled, scoring 11 points, in an 80-71 loss at defending league champion Phoenix. She was an abysmal 3-for-20 from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and 2 for 2 from the free throw line. She also had four rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, one steal and two turnovers in 32 minutes.
Thursday afternoon McCoughtry scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in Atlanta’s 76-72 win at Los Angeles. She was 5-for-20 from the field, including 0 of 2 from 3-point range, and 12 for 13 from the free throw line while also recording two steals and committing three turnovers in 31 minutes.
So far this season McCoughtry is averaging 21.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Dream’s first 15 games.
Schimmel averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 assists and 17 minutes during the week in Atlanta’s three games.
She tallied two points off the bench in the Dream’s win over the Eastern Conference-leading Liberty. She was 1-for-3 from the field while dishing out three assists, grabbing two rebounds and committing two turnovers in eight minutes.
Schimmel came off the bench to score 12 points, dish out five assists and grab five rebounds in Atlanta’s loss to the Mercury. She was 4-for-12 from the field, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range, blocked one shot and committed five turnovers while playing a season-high 30 minutes in front of a contingent of family and friends.
Against the Sparks, Schimmel scored five points and dished out two assists in the Dream’s win. She was 2-for-4 from the field, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range, while also committing one turnover in 13 minutes.
Schimmel is averaging 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists this season.
Atlanta (6-7), which is in last place in the Eastern Conference, plays two road games over the next week, at Seattle and at Chicago.
