Angel McCoughtry had one great game and two so-so outings while Shoni Schimmel had one double-digit scoring game.
Here’s a closer look at how the two former University of Louisville stars, who now play for the Atlanta Dream, did in the 12th week of the WNBA season.
McCoughtry averaged 18.3 points and six rebounds in three games for Atlanta, which went 2-1.
First she scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Dream’s 71-57 win over visiting Connecticut on Tuesday night. McCoughtry was 3 for 12 from the field, including 1 of 3 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the free throw line while also dishing out two assists, recording one blocked shot and committing one turnover in 28 minutes.
Three nights later she had 11 points in the Dream’s 90-84 win at Indiana. McCoughtry was 3 for 12 from the field, including 0 of 1 from 3-point range, and 5 for 6 from the free throw line while also grabbing two rebounds, dishing out two assists, recording one steal and committing two turnovers in only 18 minutes.
Then Saturday night she posted game-highs in points (33) and rebounds (11) off the bench in Atlanta’s 98-96 loss to visiting Chicago. McCoughtry was 12 for 24 from the field, including 1 of 4 from 3-point range, and 8 for 12 from the free throw line while also registering three steals, two assists, two blocked shots and one turnover in 32 minutes.
So far this season McCoughtry is averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, three assists and 1.9 steals in the Dream’s 29 games.
Schimmel, meanwhile, averaged 8.6 points and two assists in a trio of starts for Atlanta this past week.
She had 15 points in the Dream’s win over the Sun on Tuesday. Schimmel was 5 for 7 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and 1 for 1 from the free throw line while also grabbing three rebounds, dishing out two assists, recording one blocked shot and committing one turnover in 26 minutes.
Then she scored five points in Atlanta’s win over the Fever. Schimmel was 1 for 4 from the field, including 1 of 2 from 3-point range, and 2 for 2 from the free throw line while also registering two rebounds, two assists, one steal and two turnovers in 24 minutes.
The next night she tallied six points in the Dream’s loss to the Sky. She was 1 for 6 from the field, including 0 of 4 from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 from the free throw line while also posting three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one turnover in 16 minutes.
Schimmel is averaging 7.3 points, 3.2 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 19 minutes per game this season.
Atlanta (12-17), which is in last place in the Eastern Conference, plays at New York on Tuesday night before hosting Washington next Sunday.
