Shoni Schimmel had the best game of her brief professional career in last year’s WNBA All-Star Game.

We’ll see if she can do it again this year.

Tuesday night Schimmel and Angel McCoughtry were named All-Star starters for the second straight year. The former University of Louisville stars and current Atlanta Dream players, who were among the leaders in fan voting, will start for the Eastern Conference in the Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2015 game, which will be played at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25 in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The game will be nationally-televised on ABC.

Last year Schimmel, as a rookie, had 29 points and eight assists to lead the East to a 125-124 overtime win over the West and earn MVP honors.

The 5-foot-9 guard has struggled this season, averaging 4.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, after showing up for training camp out of shape. The Dream (6-8 through Wednesday) has been similarly disappointing.

McCoughtry, though, has been anything but a disappointment so far this season. The 6-1 guard is second in the league in scoring (21.1 ppg), 16th in rebounding (6.1 rpg), tied for seventh in assists (3.6 apg) and is fifth in steals (1.93 spg). This will be the fourth All-Star start, and the third in a row, for McCoughtry, who is in her sixth season in the WNBA.

She finished second among all Eastern Conference frontcourt players with 7,619 votes.

Meanwhile Schimmel, who has a huge Native American following, was second among all Eastern Conference backcourt players with 8,881 votes.

Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne, the league’s leading scorer (24.7 ppg) and third-leading rebounder (9.8 rpg), was the leading vote-getter with 18,034. The second-year guard/forward led the All-Star voting last year too, but didn’t play in the game due to a concussion.

Indiana forward Tamika Catchings and New York center Tina Charles will join Schimmel, McCoughtry and Delle Donne in the starting lineup for the East.

The West’s elected starters were Tulsa guard Skylar Diggins, Minnesota teammates Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus and Phoenix teammates Brittney Griner and Candice Dupree. Diggins will be unable to play in the game, however, due to an ACL injury she suffered late last month.

The 12 All-Star reserves will be picked by the league’s coaches. They will be announced during the Los Angeles-Phoenix game July 21 on ESPN2.
