October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month nationally, and Saturday the Derby City will be showing solidarity with the cause during the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure run.
Starting at Waterfront Park the race hopes to raise money and awareness for issues surrounding breast cancer.
Runners or walkers are invited to attend this event, and last minute entrants must show up the morning of the race before 6:45 a.m., for everybody else on the track the race is set to start up at 9:00 a.m. Fifteen minutes later the one mile family walk will commence.
In between 6:45 and nine though, the Kids’ fun zone will open as well as the Race Sponsor Village. In addition at 8:15 a Pre-Race program will be presented to those in attendance. The event will conclude after the Post-Race program at ten.

Of course, if you decide that Saturdays are made for getting some R&R the race planners still have you covered with “Sleep- In” for the cure. After volunteering for this via the website, entrants will receive a custom T-shirt and will be entered for a chance to win a mattress set provided by Sleep Outfitters mattress gallery.
In addition all day today, the Oxmoor Mall’s California Pizza Kitchen is offering 20% of anybody’s bill to go to the charity when this flyer is presented.
Today thanks to organizations like the Komen race for the Cure many counties in the area have access to aid, women’s advocacy organizations and specialized sections of hospitals are available for women who need them, a listing by county is available here.
What this walk means above all is a chance to show support and make a lasting impact on an issue which touches so many annually.
