The Home of the Innocents is hosting their own 5 and 10K’s respectively at historic Bernheim Forest Saturday, October 29th, the races are an attempt to raise both money and awareness for this important charity that benefits children all over the Kentuckiana area.
Runners/Walkers are invited to attend as part of a team, which they can join or start; or enter individually while raising donations for the charity.
To register or donate one can check out the event’s website here. The site also offers resources for entrants such as invitations and the like to attempt to get others involved, as well as an opportunity for racers to create their own website for networking reasons.
All entrants into the event will receive a T-shirt; registration will begin Saturday morning from 7:30 to 8:45. The actual race is set for a start time of 9.
Last year’s races were won by two Louisvillians by the way, on the women’s side Alicia Heyne and on the men’s side Stephen Boedicker, however other neighboring cities had very strong showings as well, most notably Elizabethtown.
Fees range from race to race, for instance for the 5 and 10K’s with transportation $35 is the price, where as with those races with no outside transportation the fees settle at $25. It should be noted though, that there are no outside fees for children.
Volunteers are also being requested by the event organizers who are looking for individuals to help with parking, registration, water distribution and various other race related positions. Anybody looking to help with that is asked to register at the event’s website here.
Along with the raw beauty the Bernheim forest offers and the event itself patrons to the event will be able to enjoy a number of attractions throughout the area, all in all the event offers a positive environment for an excellence cause.
