If you haven’t checked out what the Louisville Free Public Library is offering these days, you’re missing out on a whole lot.

Online offerings have vastly grown over the last few years. The Library offers eMagazines, downloadable audio books, ebooks, computer classes, and so much more. A relatively newer offering the Library now has is called Treehouse, on online learning tool to help guide users through designing their own website and mobile apps.

The Library’s Authors at the Library series is a phenomenal hit. See their lineup here.

Sensory Storytimes at Jeffersontown Branch, select Fridays at 10:30am. You must register by calling 502-267-5713.

The Mayor’s International Book Club meets at the Main Library on the third Wednesday of every month from noon-1pm.

The new Southwest Regional Library’s progress is coming along nicely over the last few months. Click here to read the updates.

In other news, the Shively Library is set to close for three months beginning this Saturday, January 18 at 5pm. This branch library is undergoing a much needed renovation, including improvements to the restrooms, a/c and heating systems, more public Internet computers, an improved separate library entrance, and upgrading the handicap accessibility to the library, among others.

The Library recently announced the launch of their new preschool reading endeavor entitled 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge. The children’s librarian in me is so joyful at the news of this new program aimed at preparing children for kindergarten through the simplicity of hearing stories read aloud. The Library is planning on a kickoff event at the Main Library on Saturday, January 25 from 10am-12pm to celebrate this wonderful commitment to early literacy and lifelong learning in our young children. Read more about it here.

    About Erin Nevitt

Longtime Louisvillian, I am a children's librarian at heart and have a passion for children's lit. I am most recently a stay-at-home mom who is always on the move, searching for family fun in Louisville. If it's free, it's preferable!
