After recently having had my 2 and ½ year old in a pool while on a short spring break trip, I was reminded that I had wanted to look into swimming lessons for children around the city. My daughter took swimming lessons at the Northeast YMCA when she was 4 and 5 years old. I want to start my toddler boy on the lessons earlier, so I delved into a search online. Here is what I found:

YMCA of Louisville – Swim lessons occur at Northeast YMCA, Southeast YMCA, Downtown YMCA, Norton Commons, etc. Classes range from Diaper Dip, Pre-school, Progressive, and Adult Swim Lessons. Click here to register and see costs.

YMCA of Oldham County – Classes offered are the same as above. Click here to register and see costs.

    YMCA of Southern Indiana

Riverside Aquatic Club – Located in the Highland Hills Middle School Pool in Georgetown, Indiana. Cost is $80.00 per session; a session is 2 days a week for 4 weeks. Classes start at age 4.

SIGS Sportsplex - Cost for lessons ranges from $49 to $170 depending on level and length. Age ranges begin with parent/tot classes and vary according to difficulty. SIGS is located in New Albany.

Jewish Community Center –The aquatics program at JCC is amazing. They have a history of providing health and wellness to families in Louisville for some time now. They offer everything from preschool lessons to adult deep water aqua fitness to family swim time. Check their website and this schedule for more details.

Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center – This fitness facility in the Crescent Hill area is bustling with options for swim lessons and swim times. They offer Baby Splash and preschool lessons for $32.50, and lessons for 5-14 year-olds for $35.00. The best thing to do is check out their website or give them a call because they provide all kinds of membership options and other class types for busy family schedules. Check the schedule here.

All About Kids – The program here is called About Fun Fins Swim School. The cost starts at $64 per month and age ranges begin with babies and proceed to ages 3 and up. AAK has a Louisville location in the Jeffersontown area as well as an Oldham County location.

Baptist East Milestone Center – Children’s swimming lessons at this facility begin at age 4 and focus on swimming skills and safety around water; swimmers are made up of variety of levels. Cost is $70 for members/$80 for non-members. A variety of other options are available for babies to adult lessons. Pricing varies; click here for more information.

Blairwood Tennis/Swim/Fitness Center – Swim lessons here vary from group lessons, swim school, swim team, lap swim, and private lessons. Check the website for information.

Cardinal Splash Swim School at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium - Classes begin for children at age three; this is located on UofL’s campus.

Lakeside Swim Club – At Lakeside, the focus for swimming lessons is for children ages 3-5 and for children ages 5 and older. The cost is $40 per group session.

Woodhaven Country Club offers a beginner and advanced tadpole class. The session runs for 4 weeks and costs $40 per child.
