    Bit to Do

If there is one band that Louisville loves to claim as their own right now (other than My Morning Jacket of course), it’s Houndmouth.

I hate to be a downer, but the members of Houndmouth are actually from New Albany, Indiana, But like most great things that happen in New Albany, Louisville is happy to claim them. And while Houndmouth has had successful sets at Forecastle, and sold out shows at Headliner’s last fall, this Sunday they come home (kind of) for an even bigger celebration this Sunday.

The Boomtown Ball, a day-long concert and flea market, takes place this Sunday as the kickoff to New Albany’s Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series. Houndmouth curated the music lineup and they will play a sold out ticketed show that night at 9 p.m. at The Grand. The outdoor flea market and concerts are free and family-friendly.

The event will be held on Market Street in downtown New Albany, and they have enlisted the services of the Louisville-based Flea Off Market. The market begins at 1 p.m. so patrons can have ample time to search through the local vendors that offer records, book, antiques, vintage items and crafts. Louisville’s food trucks are also expected to be there as they are with most Flea Off Markets.

The concert lineup includes San Fermin, Fly Golden Eagle, Discount Guns, The Pass, Daniel Martin Moore, Ranger, The Kernal & His New Strangers, and The River City Blues Band. Music begins at 1:30 p.m.

I’m not joking. You can see all these bands for free. All of them. In the same place.

So get on the highway, cross the bridge, suffer heartache as you realize you have been forced to pass by Abbey Road on the River, then relish in the amazing Boomtown Ball. In a Memorial Day weekend full of great events in Louisville, you won’t go wrong with The Boomtown Ball & Festival.
