I’ve always known my son, the finger-gun sniper from the backseat of the car, the one who creates weaponry from the organic produce in the refrigerator, would enjoy the live demonstrations and impressive collections at the Louisville’s Frazier International History Museum. But next month, I’m confident my daughter will too.
The Frazier Museum’s monthly “Second Saturday Family Day” features “HERstory” in March. Beginning at noon on March 12, families will, according to the description listed on their website, “Experience the traditional and not-so-traditional roles of women and girls throughout history with women-centered activities and demonstrations going on throughout the museum.” Throughout history the men seem to be the ones wrapped up in war, so I’m curious to see what will be presented on the women’s side.
Admission to “Second Saturday Family Day” is free for members and free for children, 5-14, that join the FREE Kids Club AND FREE FOR TEACHERS EVERYDAY. Regular adult admission is $9.50. “Second Saturday Family Day” and the Kids Club are great ways to introduce the family to the live historical performances that depict true stories from over 1,000 years of history. The Frazier believes learning and playing are synonymous, so all educational lectures and demos involve fun and play. Not to mention the boys (and girls) get to witness live demonstrations of sword fighting techniques from a number of time periods (Yeah! No light-sabers! No sweet-potato bazookas!).
