    Bit to Do

The Ferdinand's Ball, hosted by Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos, is not just another Kentucky Derby Party. Yes, there will be plenty of celebrities, hats, cocktails, and food, but this Derby Party is all about the horses. Considering the Kentucky Derby is a horse race, I think this is wonderful!

The Ferdinand's Ball was created as an annual fundraiser to honor the 1986 Kentucky Derby Winner, Ferdinand, who was sent to slaughter in Japan, in 2002, after making millions of dollars racing. The proceeds go to "Old Friends", which is a non-profit farm that is based on 100% donations.  "Old Friends" provides a dignified and comfortable retirement/rescue for Thoroughbreds whose racing and breeding careers have come to an end.

Tickets for Ferdinand's Ball are still for sale on their website. It is Thursday April 29, 2010 at the Frazier Museum. Dinner is sold out, but for only $100 you can still buy a ticket for the Cocktail portion of the evening.  It is from 8:00pm to 12:00am and includes a premium open bar, gourmet appetizers and dessert bar. Not into the party scene?  You can go online and make a donation.  As an animal lover, I fully support this event and am very excited to be attending. A Derby Party with an amazing cause...because without the horses there would be no Derby.
