As part of its fall meet, Churchill Downs is offering Get in the Game seminars every Saturday morning in which track handicapper Jill Byrne (yes, dad, she's the cute one whose advice led to your two winning bets) hosts horse racing insiders in the paddock area for a seminar and question and answer session. This week her guest is John Asher, vice president of communications at Churchill Downs. Afterward watch a full day of live racing, the first post is at 12:40 p.m., plus the Breeders Cub World Championships simulcast. Admission is $3, not including the amount you'll lose at the window.

The mighty Razorbacks take on a still unnamed opponent Saturday in St. Gabriel's 3rd and 4th grade league. The Razorback's strong inside game, with its twin 4 footers, is going to be the beneficiary of smart point guards and two of the best young coaches in youth basketball (one of whom is me). Admission is free, but if you bring your kids, expect them to whine for money to use at the snack bar.

Apparently an Irish buffet dinner can consist of more than Guinness, potatoes, and fights. Who knew? The menu at the buffet dinner at the Irish Society of Kentucky's fifth annual ceili includes Guinness beef stew, fried fish, and pork loin with grapes. There'll also be live Irish music. Tickets are $28 and it's a cash bar (did you really think there'd be an open bar?).

Louisville's Aletha Fields hosts the inaugural uncensored open-mic at the city's best coffee house. According to Day's manager, even though the event is uncensored, it's probably best if your spoken word performance contains content more substantial than the beautiful pitter-patter of a barrage of f bombs. Admission is flippin' free.
1944 An Evening In America
Frazier Museum

Nov. 8, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Three days before Veteran's Day, this music and theater production salutes the men and women of the United States's armed forces, past and present. Admission is $20. Proceeds benefit the Honor Flight Program, a non-profit that honors U.S. veterans by flying them to Washington, DC, so they can visit and reflect upon their memorials on the National Mall.
