Ferdinand's Ball was held last night at the Frazier International History Museum. In its sophomore year, the goal was to slim down their expenses to maximize fundraising for the ever important Old Friends Farm, which rescues retired thoroughbreds, saving them from the likes of the glue factory.
The night started with a red carpet walk, featuring the co-founders Kim Boyle and Aimee Boyle Wulfeck, NBA star DeMarcus Cousins, Miss Kentucky 2010 Djuan Trent, NBA scout Bonnie-Jill Laflin, and the host model and Sports Illustrated Swim Suit 2011 edition Rookie of the Year Kate Upton.
Then the VIP's head to the rooftop of the Frazier for a spectacular view of the city, sipping Moet and listening to a live guitarist. At 9pm the rooftop closed and it was time to party on the 2nd floor. There was a VIP lounge, silent auction, margarita bar, cinco-de-mayo-inspired appetizers, and DJ. The atmosphere was significantly scaled down from last year which featured more celebrities, specialty items, and a dinner for the VIP's. However, the vibe was light and fun as guests mingled and munched.
The highlight of the night in my opinion was NFL and Travel Channel Star Dhani Jones and his Bow Ties for a Cause. Dhani partnered with Ferdinand's Ball to create a Ferdinand's bow tie. They sold for $50 a tie which included a signed box by Dhani and a personal tying lesson by the star himself. The custom made bow tie was a deep blue with pink horseshoes, perfect for Oaks, Derby or any Kentucky event!
