Unless you have lived under a cultural rock for the last decade and a half, you know what Jackass is – and if you know Jackass then you know Steve-O. Steve-O has always been the lunatic in a band of crazies.
Jackass was a band intoxicated wackos who did extreme stunts and pranks that would make you cringe (or often times gag). They premiered on Mtv and became such a massive hit, that it has now translated to 4 feature films and countless straight to DVD compilations of unaired segments.
Four or five years ago the work with the whole crew had slowed, and Steve-O had sobered up. The former stuntman and clown college graduate decided to take to the stand-up stage. Getting help from other comedians hanging out around the club, and a little extra coaching from friend Dane Cook – Steve-O has become a real talent on the club circuit consistently since then.
Although the work with the Jackass crew had previously slowed, it stalled to a complete halt after the death of Ryan Dunn, one of their beloved friends and co-stars. With the future of a full cast reunion seems bleak in the wake Dunn’s passing – Steve-O has dedicated himself to the art of stand-up comedy and has taken to the road playing clubs all across the country. His material is charming, punctuated with his signature phrase “Yeah, dude…” – he tells jokes about growing up, drugs addiction, and of course a behind the curtain look at his experience as a fish out of water in the vapid Hollywood world of celebrity decadence.
Steve-O will be performing this weekend at The Laughing Derby, Thursday October 16th through Sunday October 19th. Show times vary and tickets are $23 – so come down this weekend and hang-out with a real Jackass
