Costaki Economopoulos (You probably don’t need to worry about pronunciation) is the proverbial square peg living the round hole that is the comedy industry of today.
Born in Florida and raised in Georgia, Costaki initially began performing stand-up in Atlanta while he was attending University of Georgia. It was a forum that very quickly came naturally to him, an astute writer that managed to convey a very fresh and particular perspective on the world. His humor is smart, sarcastic, and just a little bit outside the stratosphere. His wavering sarcasm comes off much more charming and endearing than snarky and cynical. His jokes are generally politically centered, and they tend to lean toward satire, rather than the typical vitriol that saturates all the discourse and commentary most politically geared comedians offer their fans.
He soon gained the attention of Bob & Tom, a morning show notorious for launching the careers of countless comedians, and he quickly became one of their favorite guests and was brought on to become a regular contributor to the show. There was a groundswell of support from an ever growing fanbase as Costaki took to the road, playing clubs and bars and tiny theaters some 300 nights a year. But soon his rabidly loyal fanbase had spread from the mid-west to a nationwide audience. This hard work finally created a demand for his work, and of course, it led to him releasing his first album “C’mon It’s Jokes,” to much fanfare and critical acclaim.
Costaki Economopoulos is returning to Louisville this weekend performing at The Laughing Derby August 27th through August 28th. There will be early and late shows on Friday and Saturday (only one show Thursday) and tickets are still available for $15. Stu McCallister will also be on the show.
