Close your eyes and imagine sunshine and rainbows and unicorns all rolled up in just single sentient being, with a potty mouth.
Her material is a frenzied blend of weirdo characters and witty observations on people and everyday life. Her lighthearted demeanor makes her comedy mentor, Doug Stanhope, seem like an even more precarious and befuddling friendship (but at least we know where she got the potty mouth). Stanhope is a dark, often shocking comedian, who spends a lot of stage time examining the darkest depths of the human condition.
Hyland is a Louisville native who left town to attend college in Chicago, where she went to study art. While living in Chicago she began studying at the legendary Second City Theater – where she became a master of character development and stage improvisation. She began working with Improv Olympic, and working as a hostess at the storied Chicago comedy club called Zanie’s.
While working at Zanie’s she met Stanhope who encouraged her to take her wacky sensibility to the comedy club stage. Soon, and again with the help and encouragement of Stanhope, Hyland decided to make the leap to the west coast where she settled in The City of Angels.
Soon, Hyland found herself appearing on “MadTV” and as a recurring cast member on the Mtv monster juggernaut, and Ashton Kutcher celebrity prank show, “Punk’d.” She continued to tour, doing stand-up in clubs all over the country before taking a break from the stage in 2012.
Finally, earlier this year Hyland came out of her self-imposed exile and returned to the stage, which will bring her to Louisville this Sunday, August 30th for her first homecoming show in four years. She will be performing at The Laughing Derby, tickets are onsale for $12 and the show will begin at 7:15 PM.
