It is a well-known fact that music is an intricate part of Louisville’s culture; we love our music. The Haymarket Whiskey Bar took Louisville’s passion for music and combined it with Kentucky’s notoriety for bourbon whiskey. The result is an intimate venue in NuLu with professional sound and lighting equipment that will feature live music four nights a week. The Haymarket invited The Whiskey Bent Valley Boys to play the grand opening.
Kentucky native Whiskey Bent Valley Boys look to bluegrass, folk, and country music and fuse in the time honored traditions of Appalachia. Band founder Mason Dixon uses a unique style of claw hammer, banjo, guitar, and harmonica. As Alabama said, “you gotta have a fiddle in the band” and JR is on target with the barnyard fiddle. Johnny Whippermule is known for playing his mandolin, but may be spotted playing spoons. Leroy Jones is the youngest member, yet stands tall with his doghouse bass.
The Whiskey Bent Valley Boys are set to pick a few and sing a few that pay homage to generations past, those who made their living with tobacco, on the river, with moonshine stills, and the women who wielded an iron skillet. Mason Dixon says, “It’s not so much in the whiskey as it is in the DNA.” The Haymarket invited The Shovel Bums to play as the special guest for the evening.
The music will begin at 9 pm, the doors open at 8 pm, with $10 tickets available at the door. The Haymarket Whiskey Bar is located at 331 E. Market. The show is 21 and over, but only because there are 50 varieties of whiskey, a great selection of craft beers, and 7 rotating beers on tap. In the words of The Whiskey Bent Valley Boys, “Get Bent”.
