Beat the biting winter weather in one of the oldest ways- by drinking some good whiskey. The Scots and Irish knew this well, and crafted some fine beverages (and immigrants may have brought this knowledge with them to create what we now call bourbon whiskey). Here's your chance to experience the rich history of Scotland, scotch, and all things Celtic.

The Second Annual Taste of Scotland - Highlands in the Valley event will be at French Lick Resort, Indiana on February 21st. Beginning at noon, guests will enjoy Celtic music, scotch, Irish whiskey, and a tribute dinner to famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. The dinner will feature all the traditional courses and musical performances by Fiddle N Feet and Colin Grant-Adams.

This year's keynote speech will be done by author and photographer Sharyn Wyllie. Her work, Scotland… Through the Eyes of an American, is part travel guide and part art, a practical, beautiful reference guide full of photos of the lovely green country. Jan Tellstrom, French Lick Resort's Golf Pro Emeritus, will speak as well. Tellstrom will talk about Scotland's other key export and the rich tradition of golf at the resort.

The highlight of Taste of Scotland is the "Scotch School," two 45 minute sessions where guests can learn "everything they wanted to learn about scotch but were afraid to ask." Certified sprits specialist Matthew Phillips and master of scotch, Ross Graham, will conduct these sessions. Following the "Scotch School" sessions, there will be a scotch and whiskey tasting to satisfy the those who learn best by experiencing. The event showcases more than twenty labels of scotch and Irish whiskey, so any whiskey-lover is sure to find something suitable for their tastes.

The event will also include a highland games exhibition, vendors, kilt rentals, and Scottish country dancing. The hotel package offered by French Lick comprises an overnight stay at either French Lick Springs Hotel or West Baden Springs Hotel and  full admission to the Taste of Scotland.

    About Rebecca Ball

As great lover of books and adventure, I grew up wanting to be anywhere else. I satiated some my wanderlust in the castles and expansive forests in Europe over the past few years. Now, I live in the city that will always be home with a cat who thinks she's a person.
