About the same time Pearl Jam released Ten, three guys with three guitars formed California Guitar Trio (CGT) that would tour the world for 20 years and counting. California Guitar Trio toured Louisville in 2000, 2001, and 2002 at The Rudyard Kipling; 2003 at First Quality Music Supply; stopped by the WFPK studios and Uncle Pleasant’s in 2004; 2005 at Headliners; 2006 at Clifton Center Theatre; 2008 at The Listening Center; 2008 at 21C; 2009 at Glassworks – well, you get the idea. CGT loves Louisville!
In a recent interview with Paul Richards, Louisville.com learned why CGT gets to Louisville so frequently. “We use a studio above a funeral home in west Louisville, so we get to hang out in Louisville quite often”. On the plus side, fans in Louisville get to see CGT play more than folks in other cities. The guys like to share the love and travel extensively to make sure all the fans get to experience the cool sounds made in harmony by members Paul Richards (Salt Lake City), Bert Lams (Belgium), and Hideyo Moriya (Japan). The albums played regularly here in town are Pathways (1998), Rocks the West (2000), Echoes (2008), and Andromeda (2010) although the complete discography spans the great 20 years the guys spent as a group.
Paul Richards took a few moments to chat about the upcoming tour and the date scheduled in Louisville. Richards says, “we love Louisville. The people are so nice and the food is great”. This tour date is the beginning of the second leg of the fall tour as Richards adds, “we want to continue to get the music out there and keep our fans happy”. The tour will conclude in Ontario November 20. Richards frequently complements Louisville during the conversation, “Louisville is a great place for music, all kinds of music.”
