Last night, the Whisky Chicks and the Bourbon Brotherhood partnered with the Coalition for the Homeless in Louisville to raise money and awareness for the city’s homelessness problem. The event was held at The Evan Williams Experience, and a veritable who’s who of the bourbon world was in attendance.
Whiskey Professor Bernie Lubbers and his musical partner Hickory Vaught performed bluegrass classics while leading a bourbon tasting. Fred Minnick and Mike Veach were on hand to sign copies of their books, and a portion of the sales were also donated to the cause. Tom Fischer of Bourbon Blog was also on hand for the festivities, and Mayor Greg Fischer stopped by to say a few words.
The evening included self-guided tours of the facility, and Artisanal Distiller Charlie Downs was available to sign bottles. The basement Speakeasy was the epicenter of the party, and the second floor speakeasy and Madmen-style bars were open as well. Guests were treated to food, bourbon tastings, and cocktails along with the entertainment and silent auction.
According to the Coalition for the Homeless, there are more than 12,000 JCPS students who don’t have permanent homes each school year. There are also around 200 homeless military veterans in the City of Louisville. There are many other members of the homeless population as well, and the Coalition for the Homeless coordinates efforts between the myriad agencies that serve the different populations.
The City of Louisville has signed a pledge, according to Mayor Fischer, to end Veteran homelessness, but they need your help. Fundraisers like this one can raise a great amount of money in a short period of time, but the need is ongoing.
