The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is celebrating its first birthday on November 15.  In just one year, more than 70,000 visitors have toured this educational artisanal distillery center, learning not only about bourbon production, but also about the history of Louisville.  According to the press release, “Anniversary festivities kick off 10:30-11:00 a.m., Mon., Nov. 10, when Mayor Fischer, company executives and other dignitaries will be on hand to unveil an official Evan Williams historical marker across the street from the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, 528 W. Main St. Max L. Shapira, president of Heaven Hill, America’s largest independent, family-owned and operated spirits company, will sign bottles from 3-5:30 p.m. and there will be a Downtown Neighborhood Celebration from 2:30-5 p.m. in the Retail Store.”  Read more here.

The Filson Bourbon Academy will host The Filson Bourbon Challenge on November 18 at 6 p.m.  Participants will blindly taste five bourbons and the winner will receive two bottles of Orphan Barrel Project bourbons.  Click here for details.

Haymarket Whiskey Bar has been named one of the best whiskey bars in America by Travel and Leisure Magazine.  The list will appear in the November issue, but you can check it out online here.  Congratulations to Haymarket!

The Bourbon Women will host a sip and shop event at Liquor Barn in Springhurst December 4 from 5:30-8.  Jim Rutledge of Four Roses will be on hand to do a tasting and to sign bottles.  Click here for details.

Tonight Bourbons Bistro will celebrate Halloween with special drinks and a costume contest.  Click here for details.

In non-bourbon related news, tonight at Westport Whiskey and Wine The Prisoner, formerly an Orin Swift label, will be released, and I just happen to really like this bottle.  Click here for details on tastings and discounts.

In strange whiskey-liqueur news, the internet is all abuzz about the recent recall of Fireball in Europe.  Apparently food additives that are approved for use in the United States but not in Europe accidentally made their way into the wrong shipment.  Read more about that here.

In completely unrelated news, registration is open for the YMCA Turkey Trot.  Because if you’re going to be eating and drinking all day on Thanksgiving day, you should probably start off with a light 5K.  Click here for details.
