When it comes to sushi, most people in Louisville automatically think Oishii Sushi. They aren’t the only ones in town serving up delicious sushi rolls: Kansai Japanese Steakhouse captures the spirit of Japan by offering hibachi, sushi and sashimi.
This week’s best bite is Kansai’s Derby Roll. The Derby Roll is deep fried shrimp with cucumbers, avocado, topped with spicy crab, tempura flakes and unagi sauce ($11). What puts the aptly-named Derby Roll in the winner’s circle? It’s the winning mixture of flavors, textures and the size that make the Derby Roll worthy of a garland of roses. Bonus: Kansai regularly runs 25% of select sushi rolls on most days of the week.
Other notable favorite rolls from Kansai include the Torch (with spicy crab, cream cheese, tempura flakes inside and stream shrimp on top with special sauce, $14), the California ($5) and the spicy tuna ($7). Kansai is located in the East End on S. Hurstbourne Parkway.
