All the dishes at Charim Korean Restaurant are authentic and mouthwatering. Have you ever wonder what those communal free side dishes that come with your meal are called? They're called "banchan" which translates to side dishes. Banchan is a staple at most meals in Korea. The banchan at Charim includes kimchi, cubed radish kimchi, cucumbers, bean sprout salad, peanuts and various other veggies and noodles.
This week’s best bite is Charim Korean Restaurant’s kalbi. Also known as Korean BBQ, kalbi is grilled marinated short ribs in a ganjang-based sauce ($18). The kalbi is served with banchan and rice. Unlike American and European-style short ribs, which include a thick slice of bone-in beef, Korean-style short ribs are cut lengthwise across the rib bones. The kalbi at Charim is tender and tasty.
Other notable dishes at Charim include the chicken bulgogi which is sliced chicken marinated in spicy chili pepper sauce ($11). For starters try the Charim hot wings ($6) and ddeok-gui, grilled rice cakes with sweet and spicy sauce ($6). Charim is located in St. Matthews on Oeschli Ave.
