Unlike a large portion of the country, we are not under two feet of snow and therefor buried in our respective dens. A little rain in Louisville this week reminds us we are surrounded by buddings of soon to be life. Spring is not too far off, so celebrate the harsh winter weather’s near miss this weekend at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.

Bernheim will host a number of family-friendly events this Saturday, February 5th, in their visitor’s center. Pack up the family and head out to the rolling hills and sustainable beauty that is Bernheim to participate in one of the many educational events that bring nature to the foreground. As always, members are free, non-members pay $5 per car at the entrance.

    Events include

    :

ECO (Every Child Outside) Kids Discover Days: Bird’s the Word--

Peel the kids away from the big yellow bird they’ve been exposed to lately and teach the peeps about the quiet joy that is bird watching. Kids and their families will learn to identify native birds of Kentucky by sight and sound. The “On-Your-Own Challenge” is available in the Visitor Center from 9-5:00 while the Discovery Stations are available 1-4:00 p.m.

ECO (Every Child Outside) Kids Pollywog Play Parties: A Flurry of Fun--

From 10:30- 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Bernheim plays preschool (recommended 5 and under) with stories, songs, and hands-on-activities that explore winter wonders and teach your little chicks about nature. Programs will be both indoors and out, so be sure to dress warm. Registration is required, call (502) 995-8512  to reserve your space.
