Summer nights. I can't think of a better pair of words, well maybe cheese and wine or baby and sitter, but nonetheless, summer nights are magical and romantic. Even when you have a family. Louisville has a few upcoming events that celebrate sultry summer night skies and late night mysticism. Check out the events below to make the most of your summer nights with the kids--forget the bedtimes and forgo the baths, dirty feet and night owls welcome.
This Friday, June 10 from 5:30 pm-9:00 am your family can have the unique opportunity to sleep among the creatures of Narnia at the Louisville Science Center. Travel through the wardrobe and explore the magic of Narnia through puppet shows, hands-on castle construction, make your own snow crystals, build a giant skeleton using real animals artifacts, and view an IMAX film. Advanced registration is required and the $30 fee includes all events, the sleepover, admission for the two consecutive days, snack, breakfast, and IMAX. One parent must accompany up to 5 children. Stargazing and Storytelling at Blackacre:
Located off of Taylorsville Rd. in east Jefferson County (3200 Tucker Station Rd.), Blackacre Nature Conservancy will offer a family stargazing session this Saturday, June 11 at 9:30. Join the Louisville Astronomical Society and their powerful telescopes while they point out planets, stars, constellations, and tell great stories of the men, women and monsters of the sky. Members are free guests are $5 or $10 for the whole family. Meet in the field parking lot.
Bernheim Forest and Arboretum offers a "Honeymoon Hike" Wednesday, June 15th from 9:30-10:30. If you're feeling ambitious, drive out to Clermont, KY and witness this spectacular nature preserve at night. Hike through open trails sans the flashlight, guided by the full moon above. This program weaves together stories about moon ecology, moon lore, history, and magic of nature at night. Registration is due the day prior and cost is $10/members, $15/non-members.
