This weekend on October 9th is the 15th Annual Susan G Komen Louisville Race for the Cure.

It’s the largest series of 5k runs/fitness walks in the world and it takes place at 9 am at Waterfront Park.

Now available to registrants is a special VIP package.

For a $100 entry fee, these VIP participants will receive breakfast at North End Café, race registration, access to new luxurious seating area as well as a free gift for those V.I.Pink participants.

This year, organizers expect to surpass last year’s number of 9,000 participants to over 10,000.

Last year’s walk, the largest single fundraiser for the Louisville Komen affiliate, raised $700,000.

Included in last year’s numbers were over 800 breast cancer survivors, highlighted by a Parade of Pink.

According to Allison Gibson with Louisville’s Komen chapter “

A minimum of twenty-five percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world. Up to seventy-five percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects. “

If you haven’t already signed up for the walk, it’s not too late!

Until Friday 10/8/2010, register at the Louisville Komen store located at Oxmoor Mall (Shelbyville Road) or online at

    www.komen.org

    .

Or, join in the walk on race day as early registration begins at 6:45 the morning of October 9th!

Be a part of Breast Cancer Awareness month by joining in the race that helps fund programs, screenings, education and awareness of the disease right here in Louisville.

Do your part and be pink!
