    Bit to Do

The Louisville Susan G Komen affiliate has programs year-round throughout the River City, but it’s the main Race for the Cure that is their flagship event. As the group states they are “Leading the fight to end breast cancer by funding education, screening and treatment programs in Kentucky or Central Kentucky & Southern Indiana.”

This year’s race will be held on Oct. 9 at Waterfront Park Festival Plaza and teams are being formed now. Get a team together, join a team or get out and walk to help raise awareness for the disease. It is estimated that in the United States, one out of every eight women have a breast cancer incident, so chances are you know or love someone who has been impacted by the disease. Events like this help to bring a cure closer and closer to a reality.

The local Susan G Komen chapter was formed in 1999 and is one of 125 international chapters with a common goal of finding a cure for breast cancer. For the Louisville Komen affiliate, the 2009-2010 fiscal year was so successful they were able to give back $617, 974 to help various local agencies in breast cancer support, treatment and education.

Team registration ends on Sept. 30 but now is the time to get in on helping to find a cure.

Do it for someone you love, do it for someone you know, or do it for yourself. Everybody’s pink when it comes to breast cancer.
