The weather was perfect, and the cause couldn't have been better for every one of us in attendance. It seemed like organizers reached their goal of 10,000 participants as the streets of downtown Louisville were not only full, but full of pink.
Although my dog, Kyan and I just walked the 1k (a bumblee can't walk much further than that), we walked it in memory of my mother, Kay Freeland who passed away from the disease in 2003.
The parade of survivors was by far the most-touching and the best part of the event. To see young and old who have survived the disease, either for 1 day or over 20 years is one of the most moving displays I have ever seen. You clap for every one of them as they walk by, and you want to tell each person how much you are cheering for them not only that day, but every day in the future as well.
Here's to the organizers for once again, putting on a fantastic event and hopefully surpassing their goal of funds and participants. I can only hope to see every survivor I saw on Saturday, back in the parade again next year... along with many new faces. Thanks to everyone for making it such a success!
