Tom Green made a name for himself as the King of Crazy, Ambassador of the Absurd, .  He was the guy that would do anything.  Just the mentioning of his name brings back images of him wrapped in a roadkill carcass, or coaxing a snake to eat with a mouse in his own mouth, or playing piano with sausages tied to his fingertips.  He was a mainstream fixture of unpredictability – appearing in movies like Road Trip, Charlie’s Angels, and Stealing Harvard – as well as, hosting his Mtv sketch/prank/talk show called, strangely, The Tom Green Show.

But that’s old news.  That’s a Tom Green from a time out of mind.

He became a tabloid fixture for a while after a string of high profile relationships; and then he fought a harrowing battle with testicular cancer.  Now a decade-and-a-half healthy, older, more mature, and re-focused – Green seems like a veiled shadow of the Tom Green we remember from a bygone era known as the 1990’s.

Tom began redirecting his attention dividing between stand-up and the internet a decade ago, when the idea of podcasts were still floating around the ether of possibility.  He began a long-format interview web series out of the living room of his home called Tom Green’s Home Tonight.  Over the course of the show he had many high profile guests like Val Kilmer, Carson Daly, and Tony Hawk – with versatile musical performances from artists like Weird Al Yankovic, Jurassic 5, Hanson, and G.W.A.R.  His success led to Web-O-Vision – his new high concept web channel – and his latest talk show (which has been moved back to television on AXS T.V.) called Tom Green Live.

Currently on tour doing stand-up, Green will be stopping in Louisville tonight for two shows at Laughing Derby.  They will begin at 7:15 PM and 9:30 PM – tickets are $27.50.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
