Jim Florentine is the bridge that exists between music, comedy, and theater.
He launched his career in New York City clubs in the early 90’s. He was a metalhead living in a grunge world. What followed was 8 years of bombing on stages all over the country and honing his talent for prank phone calls. In 2001, he released “Terrorizing Telemarketers Volumes 1 & 2.” Both albums charted very well, and garnered the attention of shock jock Howard Stern – who played the albums several times on his radio show.
Soon Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carrolla, who were known for hosting “The Man Show” thought the albums were great and produced a bawdy puppet show around Jim and his prank calls called “Crank Yankers.”
He has been featured on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Last Call with Carson Daly,” and “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.” He also did some voice work on “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” and made comedy sketches for HBO’s “Inside the N.F.L.” Returning to his New York Roots he appeared in 2008 on “Down and Dirty with Jim Norton” beside other New York greats such as Bill Burr, Andrew Dice Clay, the late Patrice O’Neal, and the almost-late Artie Lange.
That same year his love of metal and talent for comedy converged when “The Metal Show” made its debut on VH-1 with Florentine shouldering host responsibilities. “The Metal Show” remains on the air on VH-1 Classic. He has also appeared on Marc Maron’s “WTF?” podcast, as well as acted on “Californication,” “Girls,” and “Inside Amy Schumer.”
Jim Florentine will be in town for an exclusive one night only engagement and he is performing at The Laughing Derby, May 3rd, the show will begin at 7:15 PM and tickets are still available for $15.
