There is nothing, as an observer of art, which is more rewarding than absorbing an artist’s passion through sincerity and honesty. When you can see the creator’s truth laid out before you, it elevates the experience to transcendent.
Enter: Vince Morris.
His he writes jokes in an introspective way that challenges people to evaluate and perhaps change the negative influences and stereotypes that we have come to accept in our everyday lives. He’s insightful, in depth, and honest in the way he approaches humor. And he always seems like he’s hanging over a little too far over a ledge, as he deals with the frustration of being the only person in the proverbial room who sees that the walls are on fire.
He’s not all about the social commentary aspect of comedy, either. He also delves into relationships and the man/woman dynamic of differences; Venus, Mars, and why it makes no sense that these two beings that fundamentally hate one another, love each other so damn much. There’s a lot of time trying to figure out where things went wrong, and wondering how those experiences got him to a happy place. He also touches on parenting, and why he enjoys it and thinks that he’s actually at it.
Morris has appeared on B.E.T.’s “Comic View,” H.B.O.’s Def Comedy Jam, and C.B.S.’s The Late Late Show. He has also been on “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen,” and had his own Comedy Central half-hour special. He’s performed all over the globe with the U.S.O. – entertaining troops in Kuwait, Baghdad, and Afghanistan.
Vince Morris will be at Laughing Derby this weekend, May 21st-23rd. The times will vary depending on night and the performance you would like to attend (there are early and late shows Friday and Saturday). Tickets range from $12-$15. And comedian Jamie Utley will be opening the show.
