In January of 2008 I was living in London, those folks love some electronica, and MGMT had just dropped their first album 'Oracular Spectacular'. As it climbed the UK (that's United Kingdom) charts, it was getting global recognition and cementing them as a legit presence with both the electronica heads and the pop/psychedelic rock world. In addition, it lead to collaborations with the likes of Kid Cudi and The Flaming Lips, among others.
Now as my thousands of devoted readers know, I'm not always the most keen when it comes to electronica but these guys are pretty wicked. In support of their latest studio rip, 'MGMT', they've joined the ranks of other world class acts that have added Louisville to their circuit. World Class, you say?!? Bodes true as I don't think Paul McCartney's a fan of your band yet. I just state the facts, except for my always pleasurable banter, but their resumes also have chalked up opening slots for Radiohead, Beck, and McCartney himself.
Their latest album leans more towards the pschedelic, should certainly be a good time and is really a bargain compared to some other shows of late. I know a lot of you heads came out to see Wayne Coyne, in all his spectacular glory, at Forecastle so chime up and hopefully I'll see you there.
