A radio station at a mental institution provides the setting for “Takin’ Over the Asylum,” which Alley Theater will present this weekend.
“Takin’ Over the Asylum” will take place Aug. 28-29 and Sept. 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. each night. All performances are to go on at Alley Theater, located at 633 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Tickets for all shows are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, military members and students. All tickets can be purchased at The Alley Theater website.
“Takin’ Over the Asylum” is a comedy that deals with themes of following dreams and finding hope and joy within the heart. A DJ is taking over the radio station at a Scottish mental institution. He attempts to revive the station with help from others within the institution. The colorful cast of characters attempt not only to keep the station going but fight against their particular illnesses and a particular perception of themselves.
Donna Franceschild created the production as well as the BBC series of the same name from which the play the based. For Alley Theater, Kathi E.B. Ellis directed. The “Takin’ Over the Asylum” cast will feature a mixture of Alley Theater veterans and newcomers including: Alan Canon, Jeremy Gutierrez, Spencer Korcz, Megan Adair, Meg Caudill, Stephanie Hall, Wendy Hames, Meghan Logue, Michael McCollum and Ryan Watson.
Following this production, Alley Theater will bring back “Evil Dead: The Musical.” That production will open Oct. 8. More information on both shows can be found at The Alley Theater website.
