Joan Rivers is a classic that a generation forgot.  She has been a celebrity all my life with lots of plastic surgery and no discernible talent.  And if you can find it in yourself to delete the Joan Rivers of E!’s “Fashion Police” from your consciousness, you will come to find that she is so much more than the caricature you remember her to be.  She is not only a brilliant comedian, hard worker, and phenomenal writer.  You would be hard pressed to find comedians half her age that tour as often and write as much she does.  She truly is as prolific as they come…and that’s just the Joan Rivers of today.

If you would like to go back and survey every glass ceiling she shattered over the years, it would make the most staunch feminist say, “Gloria Steinham, who?”  She’s written memoirs, plays, novels, television shows, and (literally) 100,000’s of jokes.  She is not only a respected comedian but she is truly a pillar of comedy.  If you get the chance to catch the show tonight, she will be playing at The Brown Theater – 8:00 PM.  It’s good to behold a legend every now and then.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
