I love arena football, furthermore I miss Louisville's AF2 league team, the Fire. There’s a certain ragtag aspect to it which has always appealed to me. Because of that I was delighted to find that one of the biggest names in arena football today was from right here in the city of Louisville.
Will Rabitan is an all star center for the Columbus Destroyers and has been named to both the first and second all-arena teams during his tenure.
A St. X grad, Rabitan’s high school talents didn’t go unnoticed as he went to play his college ball at Georgetown College in 2000, that year the team had a perfect 14-0 season and won out the NAIA National Championship.
In his sophomore season Rabitan actually transferred back to his hometown to play with the University of Louisville. Despite battling injuries Rabitan proved himself a strong lineman for the Cards, spending time most notably as a guard with the team.
Following college Rabitan tried out for the NFL, notably with the Washington Redskins but didn’t really see too much playing time until the lineman joined the Destroyers in the AFL, his immediate impact on the team is noted by his winning of the AFL’s Rookie of the Year award for 2007.
