In 2002 Montrell Jones was a name being shuffled around a lot within NCAA football, ranked the third overall pick to come out of the state of Kentucky and twenty-first in the nationwide wide receiever column Jones had certainly made a name for himself at his high school alma mater of Male high school.

After graduation, Jones took his talents to the University of Tennessee where he made a name for himself as one of the Vols strongest receivers, despite that Jones returned to his hometown in 2003, transferring to the University of Louisville who he first suited up for in the 2004 season.

Proceeding his college time, Jones made his way up north to play for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. While with Montreal Jones became a television star being a contestant on the reality series 4th and Long with Michael Irvin, a competition show where prospective athletes competed for a spot with the Dallas Cowboys, Jones made it to week eight in the ten week season impressing a number of professional scouts and the like. None the less, Jones wasn’t able to parley his TV appearances to an NFL contract.

After leaving Canada as a standout, Jones opened Fast Action Sports LLC right here in the Derby City. A sports training company, Fast Action’s focus is on conditioning all athletes with no injuries.  Covering all sports, Jones’ Fast Action has been steadily becoming one of the area’s strongest sports training facilities.

In addition to his entrepreneurial efforts Jones has remained close to the grid-iron, inking a one year deal last March with the semi-pro Kentucky Xtreme. The Xtreme look at Jones as a new leader for the team as an on-field player-coach of sorts.

An athlete who has a knack for aiding his community whenever possible there’s no question that Montrell Jones is a sports legends of the ‘ville.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
