In 2010 Louisville native, Earl Heyman won a super bowl ring with the New Orleans Saints.  The defensive lineman got his start right at his hometown school though at the University of Louisville.

A standout with the Cards, Heyman eventually was signed as a free agent with the Saints who placed him on their practice squad prior to the end of his contract in that storied 2010 season.

Before all that Heyman was an All-State lineman with Ballard high school, he was so impressive in fact that he made the Army All-American bowl team and Scout ranked him number 8 in the country in the defensive tackle position.

Despite an impressive resume in 2010 Heyman stood at a crossroads as he generated no interest from any other professional team, some athletes will take their talents to semi-pro leagues while some will try out for the Canadian football league but Heyman took a different approach. For years now, Heyman was a boxer, initially he began with the “sweet science” to improve his football abilities however at this point Heyman decided to put himself entirely into the world of boxing.

Heyman’s natural tenacity proved very effective in the ring, recently in fact Heyman won the Indiana Golden Gloves championship. Standing by him through this venture has been his trainer James Doolin, Heyman has quickly made a name for himself.

What’s to come for Heyman, hard to say; what is clear about him is that his work ethic has led him to some tremendous achievements in several different sports because of that he is a sports legend of the ville.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
