There are only a few people, if any at all that would dispute the fact that Ryan Singer is one buzzed about comedian. He has spent a decade and a half on the road gaining the respect of his peers and his idols alike.
Singer has been working since the early 2000’s playing open-mics, hole in the walls, and comedy clubs, spreading the gospel of fresh perspective and thinking man’s wit. He looks at the world through the prism of a pre-millenial outcast that somehow managed to survive the 90’s, but found himself in the new millennium to be a dinosaur that longs for the simpler era of “Zach Morris Phones,” pagers, and Angela Chase.
He has a special sense of cynicism that is almost masks itself as optimism, in that he’s optimistic that world could be better, but cynical enough to know that we as people aren’t smart enough live up to our minimal expectations of the now, much less achieve the hope we have for the future.
L.A. Weekly referred to him as one of “10 L.A. Comedians to Watch 2014,” and New York Magazine called him a “Comic to Watch.” Singer has been seen doing stand-up on CMT’s “Next Big Comic Contest,” Comedy Central’s “Open Mic Fight,” and won the Golden Shingle Award at “Rooftop Comedy Festival. He also appeared on Marc Maron’s “WTF?” podcast, spurring Maron to later sing Singer’s praises in print during a Rolling Stone interview.
The comedian also has some acting chops working in commercials, the feature film “The Wonderland Express,” the short film “Mumblecamp,” and the web series “Carl Treadway IIIV – Monster Hunter.” He himself hosts a paranormal themed podcast.
Mark Singer will be headlining this weekend at The Laughing Derby. Show times vary and tickets are available $12-$15. A.J. Finney will also be performing on the show.
