Cory Michaelis might be one of the biggest names in the Pacific Northwest comedy conversation. He is a regional celebrity who spends most nights in comedy clubs honing his craft and perfecting his material while also managing to hold down a day job, waking up early every morning to mold the minds of the next generation as a 10th grade history teacher.
I know what you’re thinking,. I never History teachers that were cool enough or personable enough or interesting enough and or funny enough to be comedians either.
MIchaelis has had huge regional success, rising to become one of the most beloved and talked about comedians regionally - on the other side of the country from us, in the Pacific Northwest. But Michaelis has been working to expand his reach to a national forum, a pursuit that will bring him to Louisville this weekend, where he'll be headlining at The Laughing Derby.
Michaelis will make his Louisville debut as he starts taking the next step in his career – broadening appeal and fan base to audiences outside Washington and Oregon.
His humor is smart, with a blunt, biting sense of truth, but he manages to maintain the inherent silliness required to be a successful teacher and wrangle classrooms full of hormonal adolescents. Michaelis was a semi-finalist in the 2013 Seattle International Comedy Competition and returned in 2014 to make it all the way to the final round of the competition. He also came in second place in the Tacoma Comedy Contest. He's also launched “Everett Comedy Night,” a monthly comedy show in his hometown of Everett, Washington that has consistently been sold-out for the last three years.
Cory Michaelis will be performing this weekend, July 2 and 3 at The Laughing Derby. Show times vary, and tickets are available from $12-$15.
