The Louisville Visual Art Association has partnered with The Speed Art Museum to offer a fun and affordable way for the family to expand their creative repertoire. The Fall Series of Four offers separate, but simultaneous, age-appropriate crafting classes for both parents and children. Walk away from each Sunday afternoon class inspired and knowledgeable about a skill you can practice with your children such as screenprinting, jewelry making, fashion illustration, and fiber art.
Adult classes for the Fall Series of Four are $55 for members of LVAA or the Speed and $65 for non-members; children's classes are $50 for members/ $55 for non-members (some discounts do apply, check the website above). September 25th: Screenprinting--
Adults will create their own personalized greeting cards, prepare silk screens with your own hand-painted designs. No experience is necessary, envelopes and awesomeness included. Children will design and print their own graphic image on a useful canvas tote bag. Students will create stencils for a two-color design project and will be able to take home their personalized bag. Appropriate for ages 6-13, includes a snack.
October 9th: Jewelry Making--
Adults will make a pendant by carving and casting out of cuttlebone while learning basic concepts of pierced designs using a jeweler's saw. Children will create their own pendants and medallions and make a necklace to showcase the cast accessory using beads and baubles. Great for children ages 9-13, includes a snack.
October 16th: Fashion Illustration--
Adults will learn to draw the fashion croquis, or nine-head-tall figure in a walking or posed style. Children will learn the elements of drawing, color, and design as well as the design principles of fashion design while making their own fashion catalog. Appropriate for divas aged 8-13, includes a snack.
October 23rd: Fiber Design--
Adults will learn about a host of textile media and design principles to be used in collage, creating art journals or note cards. Using paper, fabric, discharge paste and soy wax, students will learn many tricks of the trade to use from home. Children will spend the afternoon creating a penny quilt (see article's image for an example)that can be displayed on beds, pillows, or mantels. Appropriate for ages 6-13, includes a snack.
