Calling all Harry Potters, Cinderellas, Knights of the Round Table, and Dorothys: Tomorrow night, Friday, October 19, the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library will host a family-friendly Halloween party celebrating the enchanted world of storybooks.
At this free "Once Upon a Time" event, your little ones can dress up as their favorite storybook character and enjoy performances by StageOne Family Theater and enjoy not-too-spooky storytelling. The Speed Museum will host an art craft station and the Brown School Choir will perform Halloween songs. The Main Library, downtown at 301 York Street, will close at 5:00 pm but will re-open at 6:00 pm as an enchanted world of storybooks.
If your child isn't already dressing up as a character from a beloved book, rest easy. With a few tweaks, your little dog can pass as Harry (Harry the Dirty Dog), your monster can give Max a fright (Where the Wild Things Are), and your princess could add more pink (is that even possible?) and proudly call herself Pinkalicious. Even the blood-and-gore boys could learn about the original fictional horror characters and allude to Dracula or Frankenstein. And Spiderman, Batman and the rest of the superhero crew all hail from comic books. What a great way to indulge in your child's love of Halloween while also connecting them with their favorite character's book, the original source of their story. What a costume parade the Library will have!
