A Shakespearean comedy, issues of marriage, and the African American experience are to be displayed during U of L theatre's 2010-2011 season.
The season will consist of The Colored Museum, How I Learned to Drive, Measure for Measure, A Perfect Wedding, and How Orisanmi Chose His Head. All shows will take place either at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd Street, or The Playhouse, 1911 S. Third Street.
Season tickets are available for $50 (general public), $40 (U of L faculty and staff), and $35 (seniors over 65 and students). More information on tickets can be found at either the U of L theatre arts website or by calling 502-852-7682.
The Colored Museum, presented by the African American Theatre Program, will open the season in September and October. The show looks at the African American experience in 1980s America. Lundeana Thomas will direct the George C. Wolfe production.
How I Learned to Drive, which looks at the issue of pedophilia, and the Shakespearean comedy Measure for Measure, will occur in October and November, respectively. Auditions for both shows will take place on August 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. each night. Members of U of L as well as the public may attend.
Those auditioning for How I Learned to Drive should be able to sing. Meanwhile, those auditioning for Measure for Measure should prepare a Shakespearean monologue in verse. More information can be found by calling 502-852-7682.
A Perfect Wedding will take place in March 2011. This production will look at marriage and couples having to deal with a number of situations, including getting lost in the woods, a Bollywood dance, and a mud fight. The Charlies Mee-written play will be directed by Amy Steiger.
How Orisanmi Chose His Head will end the season in April 2011. Based on a Nigerian ancient story, the production deals with values of humility, courtesy, respect, and patience. The production will be directed by Nefertiti Burton.
