Films of live performances of five Shakespeare plays at the famous Stratford Festival of Ontario, Canada, and the Royal Shakespeare Company of Stratford-upon-Avon, England will be screened at the Baxter Avenue Theatres in a special spring series, in partnership with Kentucky Shakespeare.
The Shakespeare on Stage Film Series begins February 25th, with “King Lear.” Shakespeare companies around the world are participating in the special series bringing the performances to new audiences, and Kentucky Shakespeare has unique program additions planned, as well.
Matt Wallace, producing artistic director of Kentucky Shakespeare, will host a post-show Skype teleconference with Dr. Nick Walton of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust streaming live from Stratford-upon-Avon following the March 21 and April 23 matinees from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The other showings will feature short pre-recorded video from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust created exclusively for Kentucky Shakespeare.
“We’re grateful for this special opportunity to bring these world-class theatrical experiences to Louisville, similar to the Live from the Met series,” said Wallace. “These are all live stage productions from the Stratford Festival and Royal Shakespeare Company in their current season. And through our partnership with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, we’ll even have the opportunity to offer an extra behind the scenes bonus Skyping live from Stratford-upon-Avon at the matinees including April 23 – Shakespeare’s birthday!”
