Centerstage will present plenty of musicals, comedies, and everything in between during its 2013-14 theatre season.
During the 2013-14 season, Centerstage will present seven shows: Legally Blonde: the Musical (now playing), A New Brain (August), Les Miserables (Oct.-Nov.), Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (January 2014), Wit (February 2014), The Color Purple (March-April 2014), and The Sound of Music (May 2014).
All performances are to happen at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, located at 3600 Dutchmans Lane near the Highlands in Louisville.
Season tickets are available for $98 per person (full-season ticket) or $80 per person (Pick 5 season ticket). More information on tickets can be found at the Centerstage website.
Legally Blonde the Musical, based on the movie of the same name, opens Centerstage's season. A girl takes her style and blonde hair to Harvard, where she turns the school, and the stage, into her own pink, fun universe. The production runs until Sunday.
Following in August will be A New Brain, where an author deals with a terminal illness and discovers art as healing. A New Brain runs August 15-25.
Les Miserables will follow in the fall, featuring the trials and tribulations of 19th Century France and the people who lived there. Les Miserables will take place Oct. 24-Nov. 10.
Centerstage will move from France to Texas for its first show of the new year. Best Little Whorehouse in Texas features a brothel, the Chicken Ranch, that, while tolerated in the local area, becomes the center of a political firestorm. That production is to go on Jan. 9-19.
Wit moves Centerstage further into the new year, featuring a professor who becomes the subject of research as she battles cancer. Wit goes on Feb. 13-23.
The Color Purple brings Centerstage into the spring, featuring a tale of love, racism, violence, and a celebration of life as its central characters move through the 1930s South. The musical will occur Mar. 20-April 6.
Finally, Centerstage will end the season with The Sound of Music, a musicial featuring the Von Trapp family, a nun sent to care for them, plenty of singing, dancing, love, and an escape from the invading Nazis. The production closes Centerstage's season May 8-18.
