Ferdinand’s Ball was created by Aimee Wulfeck and Kim Boyle as an event that actually helps horses. This event benefits Old Friends Equine which retires Thoroughbred racehorses at its facility after their racing or breeding careers are over. The Ball will be held on the evening of Thursday, May 3 at the Frazier Museum located in downtown Louisville at 829 West Main Street.
The Ball is named after Kentucky Derby winner and Horse of the Year, Ferdinand, who was sent to slaughter in Japan after his breeding career was over in 2002. Ferdinand’s fate was one of the motivations for Old Friends Founder Michael Blowen to open up Old Friends Equine to prevent other Thoroughbreds from suffering the same fate.
Brandi Glanville, of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and of super model fame, will be the host of the Ball this year. Also attending will be NFL linebacker Dhani Jones, chairman of the Bow Tie Cause, and star of the Travel Channel’s Dhani Tackles The Globe.
Presentation of the Ferdinand Award to Jockey Kent DesOrmeaux will also take place.
Artwork will be created that evening by award-winning Artist Donna Bernstein and auctioned off that night.
This event is black tie optional and guests will walk the red carpet to the entrance. The evening includes open bar, gourmet appetizers, signature cocktails by Bulleit Bourbon, silent auction, bow ties by Dhani Jones, Derby hats by Maddie Moo and Trixie Too, purses by Serabella James, Judith Ripka Jewelry Bar, and entertainment by The Louisville Crashers. Guests will have access to the rooftop garden with views of the cityscape and the Ohio River.
This event is sure to be a good time for guests as well as helping the horses at Old Friends Equine. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the The Oaks and The Kentucky Derby.
Ticket prices for this event range from $100 to $500 according to which ticket packages are purchased. For more information on Ferdinand’s Ball and ticket packages, or to purchase tickets please go to the event's website.
