    As most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It's time to "think pink" throughout Louisville.  If you are looking for where to go, what to do, and what to buy to benefit various breast cancer organizations, look no further.  This list should provide you with a good idea of some things to do this month that will honor all of the women (1 in 8 Women) who have been affected with the disease.  

    The month kicked off in Crescent Hill with the F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop on September 24.  The theme for the evening was Drink Your Pink, during which various shops donated a portion of their sales to cancer organizations such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the American Cancer Society and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. In an ongoing effort to show support, Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9th) has sponsored the No. 9 Pink Out, which will light up Frankfort Avenue in the color pink throughout the month of October.

    Join Eastern High School in raising awareness by supporting high school athletics and wearing pink to their home game.  

    Watch NFL Football
    Throughout the month, you can stay at home and watch NFL football games and support their breast cancer awareness efforts.  All National Football League uniforms will incorporate bright pink throughout the month including gloves and shoes.  Added support will come from their line of breast cancer awareness merchandise, available at www.nflshop.com.  

    Maker's Mark 6 Year Anniversary Party

    Maker's Mark Lounge, in conjunction with Five Rivers Wine, will roll out the pink carpet for their sixth anniversary.  All proceeds from the celebration will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

    Hard Rock Cafe presents Switchfoot, Angel Taylor, Christina Perri, Alex Band, and Crystal Bowersox.  Tickets are $15 and all proceeds will benefit the Louisville chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  In addition, the Hard Rock Cafe releases limited addition merchandise whose sales will benefit the fight against breast cancer, so make sure to stop by anytime throughout the month and check out the pink gear.

    Komen for the Cure store at Oxmoor Center
    Check out all the pink merchandise you could imagine (and then some!) at the temporary location in Oxmoor Center.  Located on the mezzanine level, you can find apparel, home accesories, and jewelry among other items in support of the fight against breast cancer.

    Through October 31, Swarovski will feature their special Breast Cancer Awareness Collection.  10% of all proceeds will benefit the Libby Rees Breast Cancer Foundation.

    Brighton introduced their $50 2010 Breast Cancer Awareness bracelet on October 1 and 2.  It will be available through October 31, and $10 of its sales benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

    Through October 31, Pandora will debut new pink bracelets in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. 

    Wacoal Fit for the Cure

    Women can find their perfect fit with professional bra fittings at various locations throughout the month.  For every woman that is professionally fitted at these events, Wacoal will donate $2.00 to Komen for the Cure in addition to $2.00 donated for every Wacoal bra or shapewear item purchased.  Fitting dates are as followed (the fitting at Macy's at Oxmoor Center has already passed):

    • Thursday, October 21 at Dillard's, Jefferson Mall

    Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer
    Throughout the month, pink Louisville Slugger Bats are available for personalization through their website, www.louisvilleslugger.com or at the Slugger Museum (800 W. Main Street).  For every pink bat purchased, $10 will benefit Major League Baseball's breast cancer charity initiatives.

    Louisville Stoneware and the National Garden Club 2nd Annual Birdhouse
    Through their "Plant it Pink" initiative, Louisville Stoneware has released their second annual birdhouse, the "Komen Cottage Birdhouse" for sale to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The birdhouse is available online at www.louisvillestoneware.com.
