Garvin Gates Blues Festival
Garvin Place, between 4th and 6th Streets
Oct. 9-10
"The largest free neighborhood street music festival in Louisville" is free and open to everybody (which is probably part of the reason it's the largest free festival in the first place). Head to Old Louisville for blues, food, drinks and those ubiquitous artist booths. Since 1988 the festival has featured legendary blues musicians: this year Lil' Dave Thompson is Friday night's headliner while Sugar Blue has the honors on Saturday night.
Peak Summit Groove and Dance Festival
Various locations
Oct. 9-11
Pretty much everything short of Nazism, wet nurses and fly fishing is being celebrated at this "multi-venue, multi-genre music/art/local business festival spanning much of Louisville" this weekend. A free farmers market, a microbrew fest and two film festival programs are among the events highlights. Check out the festival's website for more details.

It's getting to be the end of the season for many local farmers markets. Saturday is the last day of the year for the Southwest Farmer's Market. So get your fresh produce, meats, eggs, flowers and other local items before they disappear for the winter.

129 River Road
Oct. 10, 6:45 a.m.
Compete or support a competitor in the Susan G. Komen Louisville Race for the Cure's one-mile and 5K walk and run this weekend to support breast cancer research. So far $185,318.16 has been raised towards the race's goal of $300,000.
Go Go Guerrilla Graveyard
Location to be announced
Oct. 10, 7 p.m.
The Go Go Guerilla Girls are "taking you to the grave"--which apparently is some place in the East End--at its Go Go Guerrilla Graveyard. There'll also be s'mores, ghost stories and vodka cocktails (cause nothing says going to the grave like the drink that causes Russian men to have an average life expectancy of 59). Tickets are $10.
