Nearly everywhere audiences are in town, Theatre 502 will be there in the coming weeks, including tonight.  The new theatre troupe will present The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska.

The Debate performance will take place on Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. each night inside The Land of Tomorrow Gallery.  The facility is located at 233 Broadway in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for the show are $15 per person.  All tickets will be sold at the door.  More information on the show can be found at the 502 Theatre website.

The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska is a comedy and political debate that features a love triangle and a morality act/complex.  Scooner fell in love Courtney O'Connell. However, she leaves Scooner and falls in love with James.  As a result, Scooner challenges James to a debate via the Morgan Morality Act.

The Morgan Morality Act of 1894, according to the play, allows for the first man to debate the current man in a public forum.  It basically becomes a political debate, with the town (i.e. the audience) deciding on whom Courtney should have as her suitor. And that's just Act I.

Act 2, meanwhile, brings about the history of the Morgan Morality Act, including its bloody beginnings, and is presented with roles reversed.  In other words, the men come out as women and women as men.  Expect plenty of hilarity.

Theatre 502 will present sneak previews of its first-ever show at various locations around Louisville during the next few days. Tonight, August 30, at 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, Sept. 1, at 9:30 p.m., the preview will be at Patrick O'Shea's, located at 956 Baxter Avenue.  Finally, on Sept. 2 at 8:30 p.m., Theatre 502 will preview at The Bard's Town, located at 1801 Bardstown Road.

The Debate cast includes Leah Roberts as Courtney O'Connell, Drew Cash as James, Eli Keel as Scooner, and Zachary Burrell as Thomas.  Gil Reyes directed the production, and Robert McFarland provided choreography.

Don't forget about Theatre 502's upcoming shows this inaugural season, including Hunter Gatherers and Broadsword: a heavy metal play.
